A patient in a crowded doctor’s waiting room was overheard saying: “I’m so full of antibiotics that if I sneeze in here, I’m sure going to cure somebody!” With the swine flu scare circling the globe, people are now extra careful with their health. To be honest, who would want to spend their payday loans on cold or cough medicines and other related prescriptions?

According to some studies and research, most employees got a nasty flu or cold at work. Why? In a 2006 survey, more than 50 percent of those surveyed said that even when they have the symptoms of a flu or cold, they still showed up for work. The reasons for showing up sick are quite common and nothing surprising about it. The range of reasons are from having too much work to do, to fearing missing deadlines, to fearing being disciplined at work for taking sick time.

Sick workers get little done, so it’s a double whammy for both the employer and the suffering employee. The bottom line then is: people should stay at home so they would not spread their illness to other co-workers. Employers and business owners could instruct the employees to just phone in when sick and stay at home.

But what if the harm has been done, and there is already a sick person at work? The best thing to do now is take the steps towards flu prevention. Companies can sponsor a flu shots drive for their employees, even extending it to their families. If the company cannot provide for one, employees can take out an instant payday loan and use it to pay the medical cost. This is better than going through the illness, suffering needlessly in the process, and still paying for higher medical expenses if worse came to worst.

Other than the effective flu shots, there are many ways to prevent the seasonal flu, even the dreaded swine flu or the H1N1 virus. One simple but efficient way is to always wash the hands. Wash the hands as often as possible with soapy water. Do this in the same time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice (around 10 seconds or more). For desk-bound employees, use hand sanitizers. Today, a proliferation of hand sanitizing mediums—gels, liquids, wipes—are literally at one’s fingertips. Many offices now provide gel and liquid sanitizers and tell employees to keep these at their desks.
